Hypercinema Week #3

For my synthetic media I chose AI Dungeon, which is a single or multiplayer free-to-play role playing game entirely created by interacting with an AI. It's similar in concept to games like D&D where you create a character and immerse yourself in a fictional universe. There are several free scenarios to pick from. I didn't dive into the multiplayer side of things but you can basically create a campaign with friends. How it works is you pick a scenario or location, create a character (optional, you can take a randomly generated one), and start the campaign. The AI generates the basic setup of the story and from there you have a chatbox at the bottom of the screen. You can choose between 3 actions: Do, Say, Story. Do is imputing an action you want to take. Say is what you want your character to say next. Story is writing out a detail that you want to happen right then. You can also choose to enter nothing in the textbox and just press Enter and the AI will generate the next bl...

Worldmaking with Unity Week #2

For the second week of Unity work, I decided to build upon the roll-a-ball by playing around with texture mapping, lighting, and shadows. I decided upon a galaxy/constellation theme for the game, making the player sphere the moon (as seen below). I parented a point light to the moon so that it gave off the illusion that the moon was casting shadows and also provided a stronger sense of place for the player in the game. With a light on their moveable object they will feel more immersed. I set the pickup-able objects texture to a high metallic and smoothness so they light seems to constantly shift around them. Hypercinema Week #7

Concept: The setting for this is on a kid's desk, perhaps in a school or a bedroom. On the desk is this drawing of a dolphin. The dolphin will start to move and eventually "escape" from the portrait and be present in the "real" world. I was debating whether when it's in the real world to change it to a picture of a real dolphin, like it's becoming real by escaping the picture, or to leave it as a drawing. This project is to reflect on how a child might see their drawing and how imaginative they are. It's also to think about how we can bring things to life through art.  Storyboard:
