Feeling Patterns Week #1

Pattern: Stairs

I talked about this a little in class but one of the patterns I thought about in my life is stairs. Stairs are a pattern we place a lot of trust in. We feel a sense of security around patterns in general but particularly ones that are so common and we expect to be the same every time. The nature of this pattern is finite with an even repetition and size variations. Because each segment of the pattern is supposed to be the same and we trust them to be, it's easy for us to be tricked by stairs and not see variations in the pattern coming because we don't even look at the stairs usually to check for ourselves. I would recreate this pattern in code by creating a code that generates stairs, perhaps with random variables to break the usual expectation of the stair pattern. One example of stairs being represented in code that I've found is this.

ICM Week #6

Idea: My goal for this project is to create a functional rhythm game. Since something like this would require several functions, animation, and conditional statements, I thought it would be a good way to push myself and practice the topics we have covered so far. Coding: The game grid would be comprised of a 3x3 square with blocks ("notes") coming in from offscreen and you would have to press a key (probably Enter) when the notes line up with the grid to get a score. I originally created a large grid but with the randomness of the notes that I wanted to include I was worried a bigger grid would encounter impossible scenarios like trying to get from one corner of the grid to the other. I want to include a random aspect to the spawning of the notes so that every time you play it feels new and exciting, especially since I'll probably just be coding for one song, instead of having a catalogue. Worldmaking with Unity Final Project

Collect All the Pumpkins The original idea for my final was to make something similar to Frogger with 3D assets. However, I was struggling to find assets that inspired me or fit the game I was trying to make. I did find these environment assets though, which inspired me to make a spooky collectable game. I was intending to make something similar to Pacman, where there's a bunch of pickupable items around and you need to get them all to win, with enemies roaming around to catch you.  I implemented the pumpkins as the pickup items and the player can successfully complete that part of the game. The environment and lighting is also complete and I think creates the perfect eerie tone. I also added a spooky music track to the background.  The only component I didn't have time for was the enemy interactions and replacing the sphere player object with an animated model. Hypercinema Week #4

ArtLine: This creates line art from an image. I found this model interesting immediately. I think it has potential for a lot of reasons. It could be used to expedite the animation process by creating amazing line art from real photos. It'd be good way to incorporate real locations or people into animation easily. I also think it could be interesting as a way for non-artists to convert their pictures into a drawing. It could also be used as a learning tool for artists to better see what parts of an image to emphasize in line art and where to shade. For my concept, I would upload a series of images from a piece of media and create a manga style page with the results in illustrator or photoshop. It'd be cool to see how quickly and easily we could make things like that with this. Style2Paints: This automatically colorizes line art.
